It's a Grain Thing

I'd say that at least fifty percent of the cabinets we are asked to paint are made of oak. It's a great wood for cabinets because it's hard and can take a beeting. Also, the proponderence of grain is desirably highlighted when it's stained. However, the deep, thick grain presents a problem when you go to paint them. For us, it's a matter of managing customer's expectations. Without fail, customers have a picture of what their cabinets will look like when they are completed, and nine times out of ten it's not a painted cabinet in which you can still clearly see the grain, it's just a different color now. So,when doing a consultation with a perspective customer I show them the attached picture to make them aware o the two possible outcomes. We can make the grain largely disappear, but it takes quite a bit of labor, thus making the final bill more. Substantially more. Still, however, much cheaper than replacing the cabinets. In another blog, I will detail the process. I just wanted to make you aware ahead of time, before you contact a local cabinet painting expert. Good day!
